Rheumatology

When you are referred to a rheumatologist, your provider suspects that you have an auto-immune disease. There are many types of auto-immune diseases.
Here are some of the most common:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Polymyalgia Rheumatica(PMR)
  • Lupus
  • Gout
  • Sjogren’s syndrome Ankylosing spondylitis
  • More esoteric ones include:
  • Scleroderma and CREST syndrome
  • Vasculitis including the most -common vasculitis, Temporal Arteritis -Relapsing Polycondritis
  • Sarcoidosis
    …and many others.

Many of these diseases present with pain and other odd symptoms. Often we are asked to sort out odd pain in general, strange lab results or unexplained chronic symptoms.
Some of these might be: episodic fever or chronic fatigue, especially if accompanied by pain.

We have many treatments for these. Most times we prescribe oral medications. In more serious cases we prescribe injections you do yourself weekly or less often. Additionally, we have infusion services for the most serious cases of inflammatory arthritis or osteoporosis.
